Mini Facelifts (S-Facelift)

The S-facelift typifies the trend towards "mini facelift" procedures that can be performed under local anaesthetic with sedation, as a day case for suitable patients. It has lots of benefits, which make it an increasingly popular alternative to a traditional facelift. There is less bruising and swelling, a shorter recovery time and no incision behind the ears. Many people also feel that it gives a more natural look.

What are the benefits of an S-facelift and what sort of problems is it suitable for?

The S-facelift, also known as a mini facelift, is suitable for men and women who wish to reduce sagging in the lower face and neck and regain a more rested, rejuvenated appearance. It is particularly suitable for people in their 30s, 40s and 50s, who want to see a significant improvement, while still achieving a natural look. The incision is made in front of the ear and is smaller than that of a traditional facelift. The procedure is less invasive than a traditional facelift and there is less bruising and swelling and therefore a quicker recovery period. Because there is no incision in the hairline, there is no hair loss. Most people are able to have the procedure under local anaesthetic with sedation, which removes the small but intrinsic risks associated with a general anaesthetic.

What does the S-facelift involve?

A small incision is made in front of the ear and excess skin is removed. The skin and underlying muscle is then pulled upwards and backwards to reduce sagging in the lower face and the incision is closed with fine stitches.

What sort of anaesthetic is available when having S-facelift surgery?

In many cases this mini facelift can be performed under local anaesthetic with mild sedation, which eliminates the very small but intrinsic risks associated with a general anaesthetic.

How long does an S-facelift take?

The surgery usually only takes about 1½ hours and it is not normally necessary to have an overnight stay in hospital.

Who will perform the S-facelift?

A fully qualified specialist Cosmetic Surgeon. You will have a consultation with the surgeon who will perform the procedure in advance of your surgery.

Where will the S-facelift surgery be performed?

In a state-of-the-art private clinic which specialises in cosmetic surgery and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

What is the recovery time following S-facelift surgery?

The recovery time differs from one person to another but most people take a week or two off work after having a mini facelift. After surgery there is usually a little swelling and bruising in the lower face. Discomfort is mild and can be controlled with Paracetamol. Facial activity should be kept to a minimum for a week after surgery.

What aftercare is provided following an S-facelift?

When having a mini facelift the operation would be performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. You will have a check-up with the clinic nurse one week after the surgery, at which point the stitches will be removed. You will also have consultations with the surgeon at 6 weeks and after that as appropriate.

Are there any after-effects or associated risks from S-facelift surgery?

As with most operations, there may be a little post-operative swelling and soreness after mini facelift surgery. Because this procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic, the very small but intrinsic risks associated with general anaesthetic are eliminated. There are small risks associated with all surgery, but we have successfully treated thousands of patients over the years and use fully qualified specialist surgeons, so risks are minimal. We will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have during your consultation.

Can a facelift be used in conjunction with other treatments?

Facelifts are sometimes particularly effective when performed in conjunction with eyelid and eyebag correction surgery. If you are considering other cosmetic procedures, we can provide you with advice during your consultation.
