Restylane and Perlane (dermal fillers)

Restylane and Perlane are both dermal fillers – a simple, affordable, non-surgical cosmetic treatment, used to plump up specific facial areas in order to get rid of lines and wrinkles and improve the contours of the face. This non-surgical treatment gives natural, yet substantial results, and is often used to treat the deeper lines which muscle relaxants can't completely correct.

What are the benefits of Restylane and Perlane and who are they suitable for?

Restylane and Perlane are suitable for men and women of any age, who want to reduce the signs of ageing in the face or neck. As well as being used to smooth facial lines and creases, it can also be used to add youthful fullness to facial contours and lips. Restylane and Perlane are two of the most popular dermal fillers and have been used to treat millions of people worldwide.

What does this treatment involve?

The Restylane or Perlane, in the form of a clear gel, is injected into the area being treated through a fine needle. Restylane and Perlane are based on hyaluronic acid, a non-animal, crystal clear gel, which minimises the risk of an allergic reaction, meaning that a skin test is not necessary.

What is the difference between Restylane and Perlane?

Restylane tends to be best suited to moderate wrinkles and lip enhancement. Perlane is used for deep lines and facial contouring, as it has a larger gel particle size.

How long does it take?

This is completely dependant on which areas are being treated, but the treatment usually takes about 30 – 45 minutes.

What results can I expect from Restylane/Perlane and how long do the results last for?

The results are immediate and last for 6 – 9 months. The filler gradually breaks down over a period of months, eventually leaving no trace at all, which makes them ideal if you prefer a non-permanent, non-surgical procedure.

What is the recovery time following Restylane/Perlane treatments?

No recovery time is necessary. You may return home immediately and carry on your activities as usual.

Do Restylane/Perlane carry any associated risks or side effects?

There may be mild swelling or redness in the treated area, but this will settle within one or two days of injections into the skin and within a week of injections into the lips. Other types of reaction are very rare but about 1 in 2,000 patients treated have experienced localised reactions thought to be of a hypersensitive nature, which last for an average of two weeks.

Can Restylane/Perlane be used in conjunction with other treatments?

Restylane and Perlane can be used alongside muscle-relaxants and other cosmetic procedures. If you are considering other cosmetic procedures, we can provide you with advice during your consultation.

Who will be performing the treatment?

Our highly trained nurse therapist, who has been performing this treatment for many years and also trains other doctors and nurses in injection techniques.

How does the process work?

The first step is to arrange a free consultation at our Chester dermal filler clinic with the nurse therapist. She will assess your requirements, talk through the procedure and give you all the dermal filler information you need. If you decide you would like to proceed with the treatment, an appointment can be arranged for you to have the procedure at our Chester Clinic. Because it is not necessary to have a skin test, the treatment can be carried out straight after the consultation if you prefer. It is important to us that you feel entirely comfortable with every element of the treatment, so there will be no pressure to proceed and we will be happy to answer any queries you may have.
