Scarless Facelifts (Serdev)

If, like many of our patients, you want a more youthful looking face, but want to avoid traditional surgical procedures which can leave scars and have long recovery times, our scarless facelift could be the perfect solution. Named after the man who developed the technique, Serdev facelifts use fine stitches under the skin to lift the area being treated, while still allowing natural facial movement.

What are the benefits of a scarless facelift and what sort of problems is it suitable for.

Our scarless facelift (or Serdev facelift) is the perfect solution for men and women who want a facelift but would prefer a less invasive procedure. It is best suited to people in their 30s, 40s and 50s, who still have some elasticity in their skin. At The Alexandra Clinic we can use the Serdev technique to perform brow lifts, mid-face lifts (temporal lifts) and lower face lifts. Because the surgery does not involve making incisions in the skin, there are no scars and there is a quicker recovery time than for traditional facelifts. Most people are able to have the procedure under a local anaesthetic, which removes the small but intrinsic risks associated with a general anaesthetic. Brow lifts are used to correct crow's feet and the sad, tired expression that can develop as we age. Mid face lifts (temporal facelifts) reduce jowls and folds of skin between the nose and edges of the mouth. Lower face lifts can significantly improve the jaw line and jowls.

What does the scarless facelift involve?

Using special stitches which are elastic and absorbable, specific points under the skin are hooked and attached to stable tissue, lifting the area being treated. Over a long period of time the stitches completely dissolve and fibrous tissue is made which holds the new, lifted position of the face naturally.

What sort of anaesthetic is available when having a scarless facelift?

In many cases a scarless facelift can be performed under local anaesthetic with mild sedation, which eliminates the very small but intrinsic risks associated with a general anaesthetic.

How long does a scarless facelift take?

The surgery usually only takes about 45 – 75 minutes and it is not always necessary to have an overnight stay in hospital.

Who will perform the scarless facelift?

A fully qualified specialist Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, who is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or European equivalent. You will have a consultation with the surgeon who will perform the procedure in advance of your surgery.

Where will the scarless facelift be performed?

In a state-of-the-art private hospital which specialises in cosmetic surgery and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

What is the recovery time following a scarless facelift?

The recovery time differs from one person to another but tends to be as little as one week. After surgery there may be a little discomfort but this can be controlled with Paracetamol. Facial activity should be kept to a minimum for a week after surgery.

What aftercare is provided following a scarless facelift?

When having a scarless facelift it is not usually necessary to stay overnight in hospital. You will have a check-up with the clinic nurse shortly after your surgery. You will also have consultations with the surgeon as appropriate.

Are there any after-effects or associated risks from scarless facelift surgery?

As with most operations, you will experience a little post-operative swelling and soreness after the scarless facelift surgery. You may notice a little puckering of the skin, particularly if you have a lower face lift, but this tends to disappear within three to four weeks. Because this procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic, the very small but intrinsic risks associated with general anaesthetic are eliminated. There are small risks associated with all surgery, but we have successfully treated thousands of patients over the years and use fully qualified specialist surgeons, so risks are minimal. We will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have during your consultation.

Can a scarless facelift be used in conjunction with other treatments?

Scarless facelifts are sometimes particularly effective when performed in conjunction with eyelid and eye bag correction surgery. If you are considering other cosmetic procedures, we can provide you with advice during your consultation.

How does the process work?

The first step is to arrange a free consultation at our Chester scarless facelift clinic with one of our professional, sympathetic and highly trained counsellors. They will assess your requirements, talk to you about the procedure and give you all the scarless facelift information you need. It is important to us that you feel entirely comfortable with every element of the procedure, so there will be no pressure to proceed and we will be happy to answer any queries you may have. If you decide you would like to go ahead, you will have a consultation with the surgeon who is going to perform the procedure, in which you can discuss all the elements of the surgery, the desired result and ensure you are completely happy to proceed.
